Youthful skin is rich in hyaluronic acid and a substance that binds water hydrates the skin and promotes the softness and fullness of the face. As we age the hyaluronic acid becomes less efficient, leading to loss of volume and facial wrinkles.
Dermal fillers are injected into the areas which require plumping out, especially the nose to mouth lines (nasiolabial fold) and mouth to chin lines (marionette lines). It can also be used to produce shapely and fuller lips. A topical anaesthetic cream will be applied prior to the procedure to reduce discomfort. The treatment takes 15-30 minutes and most people return to work immediately after the procedure
Side effects are rare but can include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising and discolouration at the injection site. Typically, the resolution is spontaneous or within 1-2 days of treatment.
Clients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a history of severe allergies should not have this treatment.
Hyaluronic acid treatments (dermal fillers) commonly last between 6-12 months, sometimes longer. As hyaluronic acid is completely broken down over a period of months, re-treatment is required to maintain the best results.
