Anti-Wrinkle Injections therapy has been used for years to treat muscular problems including eye deviation, eyelid spasm as well as facial spasms. Ageing is associated with the development of wrinkles and furrows on the face. These lines may develop as a result of sun exposure and gravity on the dermal collagen or due to facial muscle action on the skin. Botox™ treatment reversibly freezes or paralyses muscles, therefore it may be used to treat facial lines caused primarily by the action of the muscles on the skin. Treatment areas include the deep crease between the eyebrows, crow’s feet wrinkles and forehead lines. The effect of the treatment can take up to 14 days to work and can last 3 to 6 months.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections therapy may also be used for the treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), headaches and migraine.
Most patients find the injections only cause mild, temporary discomfort. Side effects of treatment are rare. There may be a slight burning sensation around the injection site for 1-2 minutes at the time of injection and some bruising can occur.
Occasionally a temporary drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid may occur. When injecting around the eye a possible side effect may be dry eyes. Patients may develop antibodies or allergies to the botulinum toxin although this is unusual. These effects, if they occur, are noticeable a few days after the injection and usually wear off after 2-4 weeks.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain muscular diseases then treatment is NOT recommended.
Repeat treatments are usually needed every 3-4 months
